Copper Nickel Task Group website
- updated May 2007

The ICA has created a Copper Nickel Task Group with the purpose of promoting the use of copper nickel alloys to engineers who may not know about the positive attributes of these materials.

Copper Nickel alloys have excellent resistance to seawater corrosion and biofouling and have been widely used in applications such as power plants, desalination plants, offshore oil and gas platforms, LNG and oil tankers, naval vessels and other commercial cargo vessels. These materials can effectively compete with titanium and super-stainless steels in these applications.

The Copper Nickel Task Group has created a highly informative and practical website that illustrates how copper nickel alloys have been used successfully in the past and how to successfully use them today and in the future. It includes an excellent Visual Overview as well as a wide body of solid references that a user can consult.

All About Copper in 2006 - Worldwide Perspective
- updated Oct 2007

Mining Journal has posted this very well written/researched overview of copper by the International Copper Study Group (ICSG) for last year: - you will see that Zambia moved into the top 12 producers of refined copper in 2006.

Excerpt:....However, despite this strong production-growth forecast, the outcome in 2006 was very different. Global mine output was basically unchanged, with ICSG data showing a 36,000 t fall in mine production. This was due to numerous strikes and production disruptions that continued throughout 2006. In addition, there were ongoing delays to bring new production on stream as the industry continued to face shortages of machinery, engineers and skilled labour. Rising production costs, as well as the need....continued.
